I WILL BE WORKING USING THE RIDER WAITE TAROT DECK AS A BASIS FOR THIS EXPLORATION.
The Star was the first card I ever pulled for myself. I didn’t know what it meant; honestly I had absolutely no inkling at all! Every time I pull this card I feel such a connection to it. This card is one that people seem to like when they first see it and for good reason, I find this card to be very comforting.

Central to the card is a naked woman who is pouring one jug of water into a pool and another onto land. She is nurturing the land, giving it what it needs to be luscious and healthy. The water she pours back to the pond represents her nurturing her subconscious. As she is in tune with both the earth and the water, we can infer that she has control over both the physical plane and the spiritual plane. In other words, she is manifesting what she desires thus building on all the cards that came before her. In the same way, she has one foot inside the pool and another resting on the land, showing that she is equally valuing both the physical and spiritual, or conscious and subconscious, equally.
Above the head of the lady is a star, the namesake of this card. The star has eight spokes, similar to the Wheel of Fortune. There are seven other stars floating around this one. The identity of this star is a cause of some debate. Some suggest it is the North Star, or Polaris, which is the only star in our sky which stays in a fixed position. It was thought of by some as being at the centre of the universe. Other interpretations see this star not as a star at all, but as the planet Venus, also known as the Morning and Evening Star. At night, Venus is the brightest object in our sky save for the moon. Venus has long been associated with life and with descent into the underworld. Following on from this, the card has been linked to Ishtar/Innana who is associated with the planet Venus. This card is highly representative of the beginning of a new phase. Following from The Tower, it seems The Fool has undergone some serious changes and is ready to embark on a new life.
When The Star appears in a reading, it is a sign of newfound strength and power. You may be emerging from a period of upset and uneasiness but you have found your purpose once again. You may have gone through a period of suffering or trauma, but you are on the other side of it now. When you join together your inner world with your outer world, you can watch yourself manifest all you wish. You must follow and trust your inner wisdom and Higher Self to guide you. You may not fully realise where a journey will take you, but you will know it is important and will be satisfied when you reach your destination.
If we meet The Star reversed, you may feel as though you have lost faith. You aren’t manifesting what you desire because you may not believe that it is available to you or that you are worthy of receiving it. You must try and find that inner light once more. Without that sense of self-assuredness, you cannot progress and manifest what you desire. You will be stuck at this stage of the journey. The Star is telling you to pull yourself up by your bootstraps and try, no matter how hard it seems. You are in control of your reality, even at the times when it feels like nothing you can do will help. This is a gentle reminder that you have everything that you need inside of you already.
